Like most museums, I was forbidden to take pictures in the fabulous Punto Della Dogana Museum in Venice. It is a real shame because there were so many amazing works I would have loved to share with you. Francois Pinault, who runs PPR (Gucci Group) owns one of the biggest contemporary art collections worldwide. and it is his foundation that restored the Punto Della Dogana to house his massive collection of art. Works by Cy Twombly, Mike Kelley, and Sigmar Polke are currently on display there, but it is the work of Jake and Dinos Chapman that really blew me away. Tadao Ando, the architect who also designed Teatro Armani in Milan, designed the interiors of the museum. Using cement, the material he calls “the marble of contemporary architecture” Tadao Ando creates a cool and clean space where Mr. Pinault’s collection can be enjoyed by the public.
Side note, there was a Bollywood film crew shooting right outside the museum the day I visited. I was hoping to be cast as an extra in a dance scene but no dice!
